Capital Area Michigan Works! has partnered with Lansing Community College and the Workforce Development Agency State of Michigan to administer a U.S. Department of Energy grant to train individuals to enter Michigan's electrical utility workforce.

The program can pay tuition, fees and textbooks for courses included in LCC's Electrical Utility/Lineworker certificate of completion.

LCC's Electrical/Utility Lineworker certificate is a 32 credit, 16 month program. Starting with an application process, individuals then must attend mandatory program meetings, two semesters of academic classes and then a 9 week climbing school. Successful completion of this training prepares individuals to enter lineworks apprenticeships in utility companies or other occupations utilizing similar skills.

You must attend a mandatory information meeting to begin the application process.

CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY: All individuals over the age of 18 with a clean driving record and eligible to work in the United States are encouraged to apply. Additionally, candidates must:

  • Willing to work at heights exceeding 20 feet
